Well, in my opinion, exams are necessary but I think there shouldn't be tests to know the intelligence of the students.
On the one hand, intelligence doesn't show by the academic results because exists more tipe of subjects and another tipe of knowledge and it's impossible to learn all the things of the world. In my opinion, one person is intelligent when he knows what he wants in his life and then try to get it.
On the other hand, if you don't get good marks on the exams it's obviously that you didn't studied by the exam and you must suffer the consequences.
In conclusion, the exams are useful to see the progression of a person in a subject not for know their knowledge, IQ test already exist for that.

Jovita, I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. The composition is good, and here I'm agree, but there is a sentence that in my opinion is wrong. When you said that if you don't pass the exams is because you don't study it isn't true! In the history exam I study a lot and I don't pass..well..the most part of the class. The exams history are horrible!!!
Yes... are the worst exams. Ok,but now you know (like me) that history subject is harder than another and you must study more more more if you want pass the exams. The life...

I think we sholud make a new assosiation about not having so much marks to the exams because if you fail an exam you failo the hole assignature is not so fear¡¡¡¡

Jovita, a for and against essay is a formal text... so could you start in a different way? I guess "well, " is not the best option... Moreover, your opinion should be written in the last paragraph, once you have talked about the advantages and disadvantages of exams... (By the way, nobody said that school exams should test students' intelligence... but students' knowledge on a specific topic!)
- You say in your 3rd paragraph... if you don't get good marks on the exams it's obviously that you didn't studied... Can you guess what's wrong with the verb?
- not for know their knowledge, Remember "to" to express finality... (and the golden rule: preposition + ing verb!) Which one would you choose here?
